Our innovative solutions:
Low-dust and low-noise demolition
We keep exposure measurements, use good filters on dust extractors that can stop fine dust, have nebulisers at workstations, work with tools with dust extraction at source and provide respiratory protection in case of direct contact.
Reuse of materials
With our process-based approach, we can reuse almost 100% of the materials issuing from the demolition process, either through direct reuse or by means of processing, after which a new product is created.
Fully-equipped demolition trailer
VLZS is the only contractor with a special demolition trailer. This trailer, which we developed ourselves, contains everything needed to demolish a shop or commercial space completely empty in a short space of time.
From five to 50 waste streams
Traditional demolishers work with five waste streams. VLZS works with fifty waste streams as standard. This requires accuracy and craftsmanship.
2012 Building Decree: separate collection of plate glass mandatory
There is still plenty to be gained in terms of sustainability and climate objectives if plate glass waste is collected separately and recycled during demolition and renovation work. Although the Dutch 2012 Building Decree makes it mandatory to dispose of it separately from other demolition waste, only 25 percent of plate glass is actually kept separate.
There is much to be gained in terms of sustainability and climate goals if flat glass waste from demolition and renovation is collected and recycled separately. Despite being required by the Building Decree to dispose of it separately from other demolition waste, only 25 per cent of flat glass is kept separately. This low percentage is mainly caused by economic motives. The client and demolition contractor simply save time and money if they simply dispose of the flat glass with the rest of the construction debris after using the demolition ball.

From 2024 onward, private individuals, companies and (government) institutions are no longer permitted to own asbestos roofs. The IJmond Environment Agency is advising residents of municipalities in its area to make use of the subsidy scheme for the removal of asbestos roofs from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
Asbestos
Over time, old roofs can be damaged by wind and weather. This can cause asbestos fibres to be released. The asbestos roofs must be removed within a number of years and we can imagine that this is a significant investment for both private individuals and companies. According to Alderman Joop Klinkhamer of the Municipality of Oostzaan, the subsidy can help them pay for the removal.
Subsidy scheme for removing asbestos roofs
RVO is offering an amount of €4.50 per m2 of asbestos roof removed, with a maximum of €25,000 per address. This subsidy scheme will run until 31 December 2019. A subsidy ceiling of €15 million is available for 2017. Applicants are only eligible for the subsidy if the surface area of the registered asbestos roof is more than 35 m2. The other conditions are available at www.rvo.nl/subsidies-regelingen.
Solar panels
When you renovate your roof, it is worth considering installing solar panels. Then you will not only contribute to a better environment by generating solar energy but you will also significantly reduce your energy bill. Companies and individuals can find more information about Government subsidies for installing solar panels at www.rvo.nl, The Duurzaam Bouwloket sustainability desk at (www.duurzaambouwloket.nl) is also offering private individuals reduced prices for bulk purchases.
Construction and demolition exemption from the environmental permit obligation as of 1 July
The Dutch Nitrogen Reduction and Nature Improvement Act came into effect on 1 July 2021. This means that an environmental permit is no longer required if temporary nitrogen emissions occur as a result of demolition projects.
This also applies to transport movements to and from the demolition project. Following a consultation response from VERAS, in the new rules it has been clarified that mobile demolition at the demolition site is also covered by the exemption. There is an obligation to limit nitrogen emissions, however, and the competent authority must be notified about how this is implemented in concrete terms.
Schiphol Airport: 'full steam ahead' with expansion plans
We are one of the construction partners working on the expansion plans at Schiphol Airport. The plans involve the construction of a temporary departure hall and a new pier and terminal and we are proud that the work is proceeding satisfactorily and ‘full steam ahead’!
