Construction and demolition exemption from the environmental permit obligation as of 1 July
The Dutch Nitrogen Reduction and Nature Improvement Act came into effect on 1 July 2021. This means that an environmental permit is no longer required if temporary nitrogen emissions occur as a result of demolition projects.
This also applies to transport movements to and from the demolition project. Following a consultation response from VERAS, in the new rules it has been clarified that mobile demolition at the demolition site is also covered by the exemption. There is an obligation to limit nitrogen emissions, however, and the competent authority must be notified about how this is implemented in concrete terms.
