From 2024 onward, private individuals, companies and (government) institutions are no longer permitted to own asbestos roofs. The IJmond Environment Agency is advising residents of municipalities in its area to make use of the subsidy scheme for the removal of asbestos roofs from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
Asbestos
Over time, old roofs can be damaged by wind and weather. This can cause asbestos fibres to be released. The asbestos roofs must be removed within a number of years and we can imagine that this is a significant investment for both private individuals and companies. According to Alderman Joop Klinkhamer of the Municipality of Oostzaan, the subsidy can help them pay for the removal.
Subsidy scheme for removing asbestos roofs
RVO is offering an amount of €4.50 per m2 of asbestos roof removed, with a maximum of €25,000 per address. This subsidy scheme will run until 31 December 2019. A subsidy ceiling of €15 million is available for 2017. Applicants are only eligible for the subsidy if the surface area of the registered asbestos roof is more than 35 m2. The other conditions are available at www.rvo.nl/subsidies-regelingen.
Solar panels
When you renovate your roof, it is worth considering installing solar panels. Then you will not only contribute to a better environment by generating solar energy but you will also significantly reduce your energy bill. Companies and individuals can find more information about Government subsidies for installing solar panels at www.rvo.nl, The Duurzaam Bouwloket sustainability desk at (www.duurzaambouwloket.nl) is also offering private individuals reduced prices for bulk purchases.
